| 1. | Sizing of distribution steam and condensate pipe is based on campus
requirements. Obtain from Capital Projects (CP). |
| |
| 2. | Size an individual building service on the estimated building demand,
with velocities not exceeding 5,000 feet per minute. Discuss estimated building demand with Planning,
Design and Construction (CP). See Division 15: Steam Pressure Regulators. |
| |
| 3. | Size pumped building condensate piping for velocities not exceeding
5 feet per second and gravity condensate piping for estimated quantity at available slope. |
| |
| 4. | Install prefabricated steam and condensate piping complete with
insulation suitable for direct burial. Discuss type of prefabricated steam and condensate
pipingwith Capital Projects (CP) before starting design. Use carrier pipe
material per piping standards, see Appendix VIII. |
| |
| 5. | Steam manholes shall be precast or cast-in-place reinforced concrete,
with cast iron rim and 42 inch diameter cast iron cover with vent holes and STEAM cast in. Provide 36
inches clearance from top opening to bottom of manhole, minimum. Provide a ladder (non-slip and non
corrosive) if manhole is deeper than three (3) feet. The manhole shall have drainage and
ventilation: a sump with a gravity drain or pump and a 6 inch or larger round vent opening
extending from top of manhole to 6 inches above the floor. Provide waterproofing to the manhole's
exterior surface. Equipment should be arranged in the manhole to provide adequate space for
installation, operation and maintenance. |
