Campus Filming/Photo Shoots

Real Estate Services (RES) administers the Campus Filming Program for a wide variety of film, video and photo productions conducted on the Berkeley campus. University departments that have been contacted by production companies and/or location scouts for campus filming should direct all calls to the Real estate Services Filming Coordinator, Barb Evans, at 510.642.9942. All requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis, carefully weighing the production company's location needs against the University's ability to accommodate those needs without disruption to the campus.

Given Berkeley's reputation as one of the foremost research institutions in the world, its climate of cultural diversity, and its distinctive architecture and landscaping, it's no wonder the Berkeley campus has become a popular location for movies, commercials, documentaries, and print ads. RES serves as the primary liaison between campus departments and production companies. Location fees are based on the type of activity involved as well as the scope of the project--from feature films, TV commercials and magazine ads to non-profit documentaries and educational videos. RES works closely with the University's building managers for approval and coordination of all campus filming activity.

For each shoot, RES prepares a License Agreement and obtains a Certificate of Insurance, insuring that the University's legal interests are protected. It is RES's responsibility to determine when additional campus services are needed from UC Police, Physical Plant, Parking & Transportation, and/or the Campus Fire Marshal. In addition, RES regularly informs appropriate campus personnel of all scheduled activities.
